Carving Consortium Swap

Melissa McCarthy, Hostrix
October 1998

Page One of Three
The swap started when a member of the Carving Consortium Listserv (CC-L) had a health challenge, and was heartened by all the encouragement (cards, lettters, etc.) received from this online community. That member had the idea that an Encouraging Words swap would bring hope to others, but didn't want to handle the details. Therefore, the member posted the swap idea on the Carving Consortium, and Melissa McCarthy decided to take on the project as her first swap-coordinating effort.

As you can see, Melissa did a great job as hostrix. We are grateful for her contribution.

The words were all printed on 3" x 5" sized stock. The idea was that this is an easy size (in the USA) to get a small inexpensive frame, even perhaps a magnetic one for the front of a refrigerator. The messages could be changed at any time according to the needs of the viewer.

Thanks are in order to Melissa McCarthy and the artist participants who made this project come to life. And as always, thanks to Linda Berman for creating and nurturing the Carving Consortium, which brought us all together.

Uncover, Discover, Discard

"...The phrase "uncover, discover, discard" is a maxim that is highly regarded in Adult Children of Alcoholics, A.A., and Al-Anon...the phrase...is a truth by which I try to live my life: uncover the garbage...from my past and my present, discover the truth and that which is good about myself, then discard those beliefs or ideas which no longer serve me or which were untruths to begin with..."

(Various inks and embossing on flecked linen blush cardstock.)
